Systems neuroscience opening at Northwestern

The Department of Physiology (http://www.physio.northwestern.edu) of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in downtown Chicago invites applications for a full time faculty position in the area of systems neuroscience.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or M.D. degree and an outstanding record of research in systems neuroscience that adds to existing departmental strengths in sensorimotor integration, pain perception, and learning and memory. Individuals using animal models and innovative experimental techniques including multi-electrode recordings or optical imaging, as well as advanced computational methods are particularly encouraged to apply, but the scientific excellence of the candidate is more important than the particular area of research. In addition to those within the Physiology department, there are numerous opportunities for collaboration with the over 150 faculty in the large neuroscience community at Northwestern University, in departments ranging from Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to Biomedical Engineering to Applied Math.

Opportunities also exist for the establishment of clinical collaborations within the adjacent Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Children's Memorial Hospital, and the top ranked Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to participate in graduate and medical education. Support for graduate and postdoctoral trainees is available through institutional training grants administered both through the department and the intercampus, Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience program (http://nuin.northwestern.edu).

Applicants should send (as a single PDF) a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a two-page description of research accomplishments and plans, and the name and contact information for three references to Evelyn DiLisio, Business Manager, Department of Physiology, Morton Building 5-654, 303 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60611 (e-mail: e-dilisio@northwestern.edu). Please quote reference number p-194-09. In order to ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 1/31/10. Start date is negotiable.

Northwestern University is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in the United States.
