Description

The Pre-Clinical Research Scientist will have primary responsibility for engaging in fundamental in vitro and in vivo research that supports global R&D research technology and product development efforts. Successful candidates will play an integral role in the development of new technology platforms and innovations by collaborating with cross functional R&D teams. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning and executing basic and applied research studies, technology concept development, product proof of concept/ feasibility and performance studies, and verification/validation initiatives.

Education:

MS or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Natural Sciences

Skills / Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated research experience with a strong command of experimental design, scientific method and null hypothesis testing. Histopathology experience and advanced statistical analysis are considered advantageous.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Suitable candidates must have the ability to interpret and critique scientific and clinical literature and serve as a technical resource to R&D personnel in the creation of materials intended for peer-reviewed publications and/or forums. Prior public speaking/presentation experience to professional audiences is considered valuable.

The ability to perform in a highly matrixed, cross-functional environment where balancing the needs of different stakeholders can require finesse, is mandatory.

Willingness to take ownership of projects from concept development through to in vivo modeling and validation is a requisite.

The Harrington Department of Bioengineering in the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position at any level (Assistant/Associate/or Full Professor) in the area of Biomedical Imaging. We are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in Bio-imaging that aligns with current strengths of the department in Neural Engineering and Cellular, Molecular & Tissue Engineering. It is desired that
the successful applicant have expertise in one or more of the following areas of Bio-imaging:

Molecular and Cellular Imaging: Research experience in methods of in vivo molecular and cellular imaging and research with a strong emphasis on imaging cancer biomarkers, therapy assessment, cancer biology models, tissue engineering, or neural engineering.

Clinical Medical Imaging: Research experience in clinical biomedical imaging, either in methods for acquisition and reconstruction of imaging data or in hardware design, with a strong emphasis on human cardiovascular or brain imaging.

Image Processing/Informatics: Research experience in image processing,methods of image analysis, or image informatics.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain
internationally recognized, externally-funded research programs, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and participate in service activities in the department, college, and university.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION IN MATHEMATICAL NEUROSCIENCE

A research associate position in mathematical and theoretical neuroscience is available in the working group of Eric Shea-Brown at the University of Washington, Department of Applied Mathematics. In addition to research, the postdoctoral fellow will teach two one-quarter applied mathematics courses per year. Information about the department can be found at: http://www.amath.washington.edu. Research topics will be chosen to complement the individual interests and new ideas of the postdoctoral fellow, together with ongoing projects in the working group. These projects include population coding topics motivated by statistical dynamics of simple neural models, mechanisms for optimal decision making and timing, and spike time patterns and reliability in structured networks. Collaboration with experimental neuroscientists and with other theorists is the norm. The position provides a competitive annual salary and benefits.
