Bioengineering postdoc at the IBEC Neural Engineering Lab

Bioengineering postdoc at the IBEC Neural Engineering Lab

Catalonia Bioengineering Institute (IBEC) and Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain

The Neural Engineering lab at IBEC develops novel multielectrode devices that support large-scale high-throughput extracellular recording and stimulation of neuronal activity in vitro. Our technology has the potential for high impact as a tool to characterise activity in healthy neuronal aggregates as well as to identify novel therapeutic compounds againstepilepsy, depression and Alzheimer’s disease.

We seek a bioengineer/neuroengineer or neurobiologist to carry out reseach towards a multichannel recording/stimulation system for large-scale acquisition and analysis of neuronal activity from massively parallel neuronal cultures. A central goal of the project will be to identify diseased activity patterns and signatures characteristic of the network response
to compounds with therapeutic potential in vivo.

The successful candidate for this position will have expertise in at least some of the following areas: analog and digital electronics for amplification and acquisition of biosignals, preferably of neuronal origin, working knowledge of neurophysiology, software development and data analysis/visualisation using Matlab, C++/.NET/Visual C++, ideally for biomedical instrumentation, knowledge of cell culture principles and/or neuropharmacology and electrophysiology.
Interest/experience in technology transfer would be a plus.A PhD is required for this postdoc position.
